How Physical Condition Affects Play
I’ve been down over the Christmas weekend with a really bad fever, hitting 39.1 deg C at one point. Even then, I tried playing a couple of sessions, but soon realized it was a really bad idea.
It seems like when I’m sick, I’m a lot less patient. On both the sessions, I made stupid plays, trying to force a steal in an impossible situation. On neither session did I last up to 100 hands. Essentially, I just got tired a lot quicker, and tried to accommodate for that by forcing plays. As such, I lost about two buyins (about $3) over the 2 sessions of 30-40 hands each.
Or I could just be making excuses for my losses, when the simple fact is I’m not that good a player.
What do you think? How does your physical condition affect how you play – and how (if at all) do you accommodate that?

i know i think a lot slower when i'm tired.
If you have a rough idea of the odds and can remain patient then anyone with a decent perseptive mind can play poker. It is true that you are more inclined to lose focus and disipline when not 100% – We all get grouchy and irritable when tired but you can train your mind to concentrate for increased periods. A golfer who wins a major does this….getting into the zone they call it. Getting in the zone means that you give yourself your best possible chance of success by having maximum focus on what you are doing. If you can do this for a longer time than your opponents then more often that not you will come out on top.
